Hey, look what we flew over on our way to Tel Aviv yesterday! That's Naxos on the left, Paros on the right, and the SeaJet ferry sailing between them. It's crazy to think that I was down there just one week ago, and since then I've hopped between three countries, two continents, and three alphabets.

Catching lizards and catching up
What a whirlwind the last month has been! As I alluded to earlier, my mom has the stamina of a marathoner when it comes to sightseeing, so we crammed about four weeks' worth of touring into two, and with all the back-and-forth to Greece, I've now been to the airport five times in the last … Continue reading Catching lizards and catching up
Wind
Time is flying! Today is our last day in Greece, and it's the first day that the weather hasn't been essentially perfect. It's a little windy, a white-caps-on-the-sea kind of day. So, instead of going on a sailing trip as planned, we're sitting at Cafe Citron, reading and watching the sailboats rock in the waves. It's … Continue reading Wind
Google Translate et moi, nous sommes fatigués
Yesterday, after a long day of flights and trains, I arrived back in Paris. Unfortunately I had one time-sensitive errand to run since Colin's collaborator Anthony needed a piece of research equipment for his own fieldwork starting today. So I dragged my suitcase up the four flights of stairs to our apartment, caught my breath, … Continue reading Google Translate et moi, nous sommes fatigués
Here and back again
I've now been in Greece for three weeks, although - and I mean this in the absolute best way possible - it feels like twice that. It's hard to imagine not being in Greece anymore, although I'm going to have to get over that because I hop on a plane back to Paris tomorrow: my mom is … Continue reading Here and back again
Leapin’ lizards, we’re done!
Update from the field: we’re done! I can now say that my first foray into field ecology was a success, and I earned rave reviews from the boss on my lizard-catching and lizard-spotting abilities. Also: fieldwork is hard. I tease Colin all the time about his plush job, in which he kayaks to deserted islands … Continue reading Leapin’ lizards, we’re done!
Home away from home away from home
We made it to Greece! I’m currently writing this from Cafe Kitron on the island of Naxos in the Cyclades. Stepping off the ferry from Athens last night felt a little like coming home, or, I guess, home away from home away from home. Colin has been coming to Naxos for seven summers now (you … Continue reading Home away from home away from home
Fit for a king
Last Friday, Colin skipped work to go with me to Versailles. We knew we wanted to avoid le week-end in hopes of it being slightly less crowded, and the grounds are closed on Mondays and there were transit strikes on Wednesday and Thursday, so Friday it was. Versailles is only about 12 miles outside of Paris on the RER, … Continue reading Fit for a king
Some thoughts on Antigua, and travel, and privilege
I’ve been struggling with how to write about my trip to Antigua because, although I loved the cricket match, the helicopter ride, and the few afternoons we spent at the beach, I honestly did not love the island. I struggle even writing that sentence. There is so much to unpack in my disappointment. First, of … Continue reading Some thoughts on Antigua, and travel, and privilege
Two months, four countries
Forgive me if I don't quite know where I am these days! It's been two months since Colin and I took off for London, and since then we've spent several weeks in Paris, a couple weeks in Antigua, and a week back in the U.S. I just got home yesterday after a 24-hour journey punctuated … Continue reading Two months, four countries
