France vs. America

I follow enough French accounts on social media that the targeted ads I see are often in French, even now that I’m back in the US. Normally I don’t give the ads much thought, but the fine print of this one caught my eye:

Pour votre santé, évitez de grignoter entre les repas. For your health, avoid snacking between meals.

Toto, we’re not in Kansas anymore! Or rather, we’re not in France anymore. We are in fact pretty darn close to Kansas, in the great US of A where snacks are a way of life.

(About the same time I saw the French ad above on Instagram, one of my Spotify ads was for an American delivery service that brings you dinner when you don’t feel like moving from the couch. “You only have to walk far enough to open the door!” that ad urged, no fine print included.)
