For the holiday season, our local department store (the Bazar de l’Hôtel de Ville, or BHV) has added a few displays of international cuisine. Here’s the American one:

French’s mustard, Hellmann’s mayonnaise, barbecue sauce, Tabasco sauce, popcorn, pancakes, Star Wars potato chips, Reese’s peanut butter, and Marshmallow Fluff. I’m so disgusted that I don’t know whether to laugh or to cry! Is this really what the French think of us? Surely there’s something better than Marshmallow Fluff to represent America… right? Right?
On behalf of the American people, I apologize to all the French children getting mayonnaise in their Christmas stockings this year.
I’m sorry to tell you this but it’s the same thing in the UK! American candy has become way more available in the past ten years and gets put in the “international” aisle. Tbh what is best about US food culture is the mix of immigrant cuisines 👏🙌

Ahh, that makes me so sad! When people ask what food I miss from the US, I say Tex-Mex, sushi, Thai… none of which has its origins in the US of course 🙂

What? No Velveeta?

No, and thank goodness! The cheese here is so fantastic that I’d really worry if they started eating Velveeta.
